Our coaching staff is a very important part in our business. Our certified teaching staff has more than 75 years of skating experience.  Being certified by USARS (USA Roller Sports, the official national governing body of roller skating by FIRS) includes written exams, background checks, and insurance.  All of our Figure and Speed coaches are certified by USARS and have, therefore, passed a background check.  All of our class coaches and instructors are YPT certified by the Boy Scouts (Youth Protection Training, which also requires a background check).

We want to help you enjoy this sport.  Roller skating was the "original" social network.  Skating may become your outlet for social or excercise values or may come to encompass competitive skating.  Roller skating is a fun, family activity as there are no limitations nor age restrictions as to what one can do.  ENJOY.

Coaches - Figure Club

Roger Wampach - Head Pro

Roger started skating at the Aurora rink in 1956.  After purchasing skates at the rink he started taking the class skating lessons (these classes got him hooked).  He has been involved with figures and dance skating ever since.

His skating career has been quite successful, placing at the State, Regional (5 states), and National level in Novice, Intermediate, and Senior divisions.  Most recently, (after 48 years of not competing!) Roger won the Gold Medal and a Silver Medal at the 2015 National Championships.  He won six Golds and two Silvers at the 2016 Great Lakes Regional Championships and won the Silver Medal for Veterans Team Dance with his partner, Penny Marchiel, at the National Championships.  He has also passed all of his proficiency tests, obtaining his Gold Medal in Team Dance and his Gold Bar in figures.

Roger started teaching and coaching in 1967, again at the Aurora Skate Center.  His students have placed in all levels of competitive skating as well as achieving proficiency tests.  His ability to teach is a blend of his skating background as well as his experience and credentials that include being a member of the SRSTA (professional coaching organization), a member of the RSA, a commissioned judge, a speed coach, and hosting and running test centers and competitive skating meets.

His love of skating can best be recognized by his desire to encourage ALL skaters in the sport.  His passion is to work with individuals where they are in their skill level.  He loves teaching skating classes to all ages (ranging from 3 to 85 years old).  He knows he is successful when the skaters are having FUN.

Donna Turner

“I have been fortunate to be involved in skating for well over 40 years. In the Achievement Test Program I earned Gold Medals in Dance, Figures and Freestyle. I skated competition for about 14 years in all aspects of figure skating: figures, loops, freestyle, pairs, fours, free dance and speed and I competed in the Elite/World Class division in the artistic program. I also owned and operated a successful roller rink for 12 years.

“I have been teaching over 40 years, teaching skaters from the beginner to the elite (all ages), teaching all aspects of the sport. My skaters have earned many state, regional, and national placements. Two of my skaters earned their placement on the U.S. World Team, one in pairs and the other in freestyle. I was the first Illinois teacher to create and coach a Synchronized/Precision Team skating at the national level.

“I am or have been a:

“I was also honored to teach freestyle and pairs at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado for one week…the only Illinois teacher to do so.

“My skaters are very important people to me…they are like family. I enjoy teaching and watching them grow to be skaters, but also as people. Skating is my passion and I have been privileged to be part of the sport for so many years, and I intend to stay involved for many more.

“On a personal note, I have raised three great children and love spending time with my grand children. I have been married for twenty + years to an amazing man.”
